Capital campaign update
For the past few years, senior managers and several members of the Board of Directors of the Wallingford Family YMCA have engaged with community leaders, YMCA members, and neighbors as we plan for the Y’s future. We have remained focused on what will best serve the residents of the Wallingford community today and for generations to come. While we are proud of the work we do each day, we know our current facilities are not keeping up with the demands of today’s society. We must create purposeful spaces that will support the health, recreation and social needs of a modern community. So how are we doing?

West Side Story:

YMCA Commits to West Side Community

In 2011, the YMCA’s East Side facility was at capacity. We needed additional space. A task force was established to determine the best solution to this issue.
In 2012, the Wallingford Family YMCA took over operations of a former for-profit fitness center located at 8 North Turnpike Rd through a lease agreement with option to purchase. Since that time, we have been working diligently to purchase the property.
On Friday, September 27, 2019, after a long legal battle, The Wallingford Family YMCA officially closed on the property, securing our future in the West Side of Wallingford.
In a small ceremony on September 30, we officially christened the property as our newest YMCA. Thank you to all those who helped to make this dream a reality. Where it seems like the end of a long journey, really it is just the beginning! Over the next few years, this new property will become an important part of our outreach here in Wallingford.

Paving the Way to a Bright Future

In January of 2019, a water main break caused utility companies to excavate a large section of our West Side Parking Lot. Upon completion of that project, a temporary patch was put in place. This fall, the excavated section of our parking lot will be repaved in preparation for a full restriping of the lot in the spring of 2020.
We hope these repairs make it easier for our members and guests to access the facility. Stay tuned for continued exterior improvements!

Our Improvements are Heating Up

In 2019, we invested over $15,000 in repairs to the Steam Rooms at our East and West Side Branches. Recently, the Y has contracted with a company called Finlandia to completely rebuild the Men’s Sauna at the West Side Branch. We’re pleased to announce that the new sauna is complete!

Shedding Light on our Mission

The safety of our members and guests has always been our top priority. In this spirit, we will be installing brand new, energy-efficient lighting in our West Side parking lot and gymnasium. We hope it brightens your experience with us.
