The Wallingford Family YMCA Dolphins Swim Team is a year-round competitive program operated by the Aquatics Department at the Wallingford Family Y. We help swimmers of all abilities reach their highest potential. We serve the town of Wallingford and its surrounding communities.
Who We Are
The Dolphins Swim Team is a competitive team that participates in YMCA competitions at the local, state, regional, and national levels. Our team is a member of the Yankee Cluster Swim League, which creates regular competition against YMCA teams throughout CT. The Dolphins also compete as a part of the USA Swimming Association.
We apply the four YMCA Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility to all aspects of the sport. Teamwork focuses on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Every member of the team develops commitment, dedication, teamwork, and a love of swimming. Through this, we build a strong foundation for a lifetime of healthy fitness habits.
How We Run
The Dolphins Swim Team has two seasons: the Fall/Winter, which runs from early September to March and the Spring/Summer, which runs from mid-April to early July. The season may extend for individuals who qualify beyond regular-season meets.
Swimmers are assigned practice groups related to their age and ability levels and practices run three to five times a week, depending on the group. In the time between seasons, we run Pre-Season Clinics which for 2-6 weeks and meant to prepare swimmers, physically and technically, for the competitive season. These clinics are open to all new and returning swimmers.
Membership is required for all Dolphin Swim Team participants. New swimmers looking to join the team must contact the Aquatics Department for an evaluation to be appropriately placed in a practice group.
