On December 29, 1944, a group of volunteers with the vision of a better Wallingford sign Articles of Incorporation, officially forming the Wallingford Family YMCA. Because of you, we are still here and thriving 75 years later. Thank you for making us a part of your lives.

We are proud to celebrate our last 75 years with a Gala to take place on Tuesday, March 24th, 2020 at the historic Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, CT. Tickets to our event are just $50 each and can be purchased right here on our website or at either our East or West Side Welcome Centers. Our Anniversary Gala will feature:

36 Days until the Gala! In honor of "National Love Your Pet Day", shown below was our 2018 Puppy Plunge at the East Side Y! A cute little fundraiser while the dogs and their families had great time cooling off and playing around!
37 days until the Gala! Seen below in January 1945 at the YMCA's Annual Convention, Wallingford Family YMCA's founding officers; George St. John Jr, Mrs. Herbert Crump, Langdon Fernald and Ferdinand Valenti are recognized for their accomplishments!
38 days until the Gala! Gymnastics has played such an important part of the YMCA's history throughout the years and continues today. This is a snapshot from 1972, I believe we just retired some of the old equipment!
39 days until the Gala! This day is dedicated to Phyllis Drescher! 50 year employee of our YMCA, she has changed so many lives as a youth instructor, group exercise instructor and advocate for Healthy Lifestyles! Thank you Phyllis!
40 days until the Gala!1965 Groundbreaking ceremony for the new Gymnasium at the East Side Y! Its seen 55 years of dances, basketball,volleyball, tennis, Camp, overnights, pep rallies and so much more for the community. Thank you to those leaders who had the vision.
41 days until the Gala! Sunday Funday, in the 1950's, as the YMCA hosts St. Pauls Episcopal Church parishioners at Camp Adahi off West Dayton Hill Road.
42 days until the Gala! Weight training at the Y in 1973. We now offer over 15,000 square feet of fitness space including functional training, TRX, circuit training and thousands of pounds of free weights.
43 days until the Gala! Courtesy of the Wallingford Public Library, highlights from the Y's 1957 Valentines Dance! 63 years later the Y is still dancing, bringing the community together for 1940's swing dancing at the Oakdale!
44 days until the Gala! The YMCA has been providing Early Childhood Development for over 30 years as Wallingford's largest provider of childcare ages 8 weeks through high school!
45 days until the Gala! Fostering healthy lifestyles in our youth since 1944! The Y works with town officials, depts & local agencies through Activate Wallingford, Healthy Wallingford 2020 and Community Health Alliance to ensure a healthy future!
46 days until the Gala! YMCA Cardiac Rehab programs shown here from the early 1980's. We are excited to announce that we have worked with our medical partners to redevelop our Cardiac Rehab program. The program is set to launch this spring.

52 days until the Gala! In 1982 Chris McLaughlin, Fred Ulbrich Jr. and Executive Director Rod Geist established the YMCA's Endowment Fund. As you plan out your estate, please do keep in mind the YMCA and our sustainable future!
53 days until the Gala! 2013 West Side YMCA Ribbon Cutting marked our expansion and outreach. Cancer survivor programs, cardiac rehab, Silver Sneakers, Blood Drives have helped us transform the location into a mission based wellness center.
54 days until the Gala! YMCA staff are our greatest asset. The impact they have on our members, participants and families is unmeasurable. Join us as we recognize our staff and so many others, at the Gala on March 24th.
55 days until the Gala! The early days of Wallingford's oldest and most used pool at the Elm Street Y. Old diving blocks and a diving board which was removed due to changes in regulations. Please share when you first swam in our pool or a story you may have.
56 days until the Gala! Helping to build tomorrows leaders with our Teen Leadership programs since the 1940's! Todays programs may have different titles, but the philosophy, values and goals are the same.
57 days until the Gala! Turtle, Turtle, Turtle! A look back at Camp Adahi in the 1950's. Kids have been learning about nature, making new friends and playing outdoors(UNPLUG) since we began! Youth Development at its finest.
58 days until the Gala! YMCA Badmitton Club in the 1950s playing at Moses Y Beach Elementary School. We have been so fortunate all these years to have the partnership with the Wallingford Public Schools!
59 days until the Gala! Water Aerobics has been a staple for our YMCA since the pool was built in 1969. Our vision is to expand that offering to the west side of town with a new Aquatics Center. Join us at the Gala to find out more!
60 Days until the Gala! The early days of Healthy Lifestyles at the YMCA. We have certainly evolved with programs such as Livestrong at the Y, Fit to Go, Cardiac Rehab, Water Aerobics and so much more!

62 days until the Gala! In 1891, James Naismith invented Basketball at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Mass. In 1965, shown below, the Wallingford Family YMCA brought the game of Basketball to the East Side Y!
63 days until the Gala! YMCA Badmitton class at Moses Y Beach Elementary school in the 1950's. Fast forward to 2020 and you will find our newest craze Pickleball taking over the YMCA gymnasium!
64 Days until the Gala! As we celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., Lets take today to recognize the impact and history of MLK as a YMCA youth and mentor.
65 Days until the Gala! The 1950's Towne Club roasting popcorn on the fireplace. We have since transformed that room to house our Teaching & Therapy Pool. Stay tuned for exciting news on how our Y will undergo expansion and upgrades to serve future generations!
66 Days until the Gala! Did you know? The YMCA led Youth Boxing classes in the 1960s. Stay tuned for new, exciting programs such as these to be offered for our Greater Wallingford Community!
67 Days until the Gala! The Wallingford Family YMCA has been offering School Age Growth and Enrichment Before and After School programs at each of the 8 elementary schools in partnership with the Wallingford Board of Education since 1984.
68 days to go! Did you know? The YMCA occupied the second floor of the old town hall from 1945-1953 until a smaller version of the east side y was built!
69 Days left until the Gala! Halloween at the Y where members of the Whittlesey Avenue School seventh grade Hi-Gray-Y club called "Puddy Tats", sold candy to raise money to bring a group of German boys to our country for a 2 month visit!
70 Days until the Gala! YMCA staff are the at the heart of everything we do. We began with 1 staff member in 1944 and now have over 250, delivering our mission.
71 days until the Gala! Did you know that the Wallingford Family YMCA has been providing quality summer camp programs since 1950's? Camp Adahi took place at the YMCA Day Camp now known at Bertini Park off West Dayton Hill Road.
72 days until the gala! Did you know that CHOATE Rosemary Hall Headmaster George St JOHN was one of the YMCA’s founding fathers in 1944.
73 days to the gala! Social responsibility is behind everything we do since 1944!
74 Days until the Gala! Today highlights YMCA Youth Development in February 1946, with our innagural YMCA member, Fred Ulbrich Jr. and members of the Tri-Hi-Y Club. Fred, at 16 years old, led the Valentines Day Dance Committee!
