Part of what sets the Wallingford Family YMCA apart from most other fitness facilities is the group exercise opportunities. It’s a big part of what makes being a member of the Y community special. The Wallingford Family YMCA offers more than 100 fitness classes per week, including 15 classes just for active older adults. Whether you’re looking for yoga or Spinning or Zumba, we’ve got it.And they’re all FREE** with your YMCA membership. Class Descriptions

Bodies In Motion

Moderate level cardio and strength class.  This class will incorporate cardiovascular, strength and core training in a easy to follow format.  A unique blend of elements that will challenge you from head to toe.

Cross Train

Cross Train Boot Camp is a rigorous, results-based group training that gives equal attention to strength, cardiovascular & endurance, agility, speed, explosiveness and flexibility to achieve maximum athletic potential.

Low Impact Cardio Fit

Keep your heart pumping and the calories burning with 45 minutes of non-stop action! Weights, resistance bands, and core work may be incorporated.

Low Impact Mix-Up

Get your low-impact cardio workout with a fun twist!  It’s a different class each week with two instructors offering a variety of workout styles.

Pilates

A total body mat workout with emphasis on the core muscles (abdominals and low back).  Increase your core and body awareness, and improve your posture!  All fitness levels welcome.

PIYO

Core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility of yoga. Low impact, fat burning. Dynamic flowing sequences that lengthen and tone muscles and increase flexibility.

P90X

A total body strength and cardio class that incorporates personal training and functional training.  Rock out to hardcore music and give it your all as you encourage each other to get in the best shape of your lives!

Power Pack

No matter what your level, come try Power Pack. This class combines low- to high intensity cardio. Work with weights to build muscle and burn fat.  The perfect 45 minute lunch time class!

Muscle Max

Whole body strength & conditioning class, combining barbells, dumbbells and floor work to challenge the entire body.  Great for all levels of fitness.

Shotokan Karate

Traditional Japanese Karate with focus on balance, coordination, endurance and strength. Small class size ensures personalized instruction. All abilities are welcome. Class is for ages 10 and up.

Silver Sneakers Classic

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. A chair is used for support

Spinning

Experience all terrain challenges including hills, flat roads, switch backs, jumps speed and sprints.

Stronger Longer

A class designed to help older adults improve their muscular strength, cardiovascular strength, and flexibility. Good for beginners.

Tone & Trim

Concentrates on full body toning through the use of resistance exercises. A variety of equipment such as weights, bands and balls will be used with high rep/low weight sets for a fun and dynamic class.

Y-Fit

Get fit the Y way! This class uses functional exercises designed to build cardio endurance & agility. Using bars, steps and more, you will rotate through stations for one intense workout.

Yoga (Vinyasa II)

A moderately paced vinyasa class with the intention to cultivate balance, strength & flexibility.  You will leave with a more open heart & uncluttered mind.

Zumba Basic

Are you ready to party yourself into shape? Move it, shake it and rock it out with red-hot dance steps and pulsating Latin and world rhythms!

Les Mills Body Pump

Weight training workout using barbells with adjustable weights set to motivating music.  An athletic workout that strengthens and defines every muscle group…beginner to experienced participants will be challenged.

CORE - Xpress

Get a 1-2 jump on your workout using this express, 30 minute core workout.  Core Xpress will focus on technique, alignment and strengthening to give you improved abdominal strength and definition.

HIIT

High Intensity Interval Training gives maximum results in minimal time!  Hard-hitting aerobic intervals alternate with less intense recovery periods to improve athletic ability and improve fat burning! This class is appropriate for advanced beginner to advanced fitness levels.

Insanity

Lead by Certified INSANITY instructors who will push you to your limits through plyometric drills with nonstop intervals of strength, power, resistance and core training moves.  Get ready to Dig Deep!

PIYO

Ripped

“The One Stop Body Shock” that masterfully combines Resistance, (Cardio) Intervals, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance & Diet. Participants jam through R.I.P.P.E.D. with smiles, determination & strength. Tough, but doable!

Spinning

Tabata

Tabata training is one of the hottest fitness trends to build muscle and scorch body fat.  Four minutes of high intensity training alternating 20 seconds of max training followed by 10 seconds rest for a total of eight rounds.

Tai Chi

Discover the benefits of this ancient form of martial arts which will improve balance, agility, strength, and coordination. This unique class will help you flow through your everyday life.

Total Fit 30/30

30 minutes of strength training followed by 30 minutes of core work.  The perfect workout combination to start your day!

Tread N Shred

A challenging treadmill class. Easily modified to personally challenge your cardiovascular endurance via varied speed and inclines. Effective coaching to keep you connected to your exertion level.

Resist-A-Ball Conditioning

This cross training class uses the ball and weights for a fun workout to improve your muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance.

A light hearted, playful class that embraces all of the beautiful movement and rhythm of yoga.

Yoga Chair

This gentle class emphasizes proper breather, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, improved balance, strength and posture.

Yoga Gentle

A slow moving, mindful class designed to fully learn to engage the breath and move with conscious awareness. Stretch and breathe your way to the ultimate stillness and relaxation.

Yoga Vinyasa I

An active yoga practice synchronizing breath with movement. Gain stability, flexibility and mindful breath work. All levels welcome.

Yoga Vinyasa II

An innovative muscle training program with the addition of light weights. This challenging workout helps build coordination and muscle endurance.   Now that you’ve worked on your lower body rhythm, it’s time to perfect the upper body!

Tailored for active older adults.  Zumba Gold offers easy to follow choreography that focuses on balance, coordination and range of motion.
