Work with a certified coach
Perfect for swimmers and tri-athletes looking for that competitive edge!

Starts and Turns
Primary focus is on the mechanics and rules of a proper and legal racing start. Coaches will also construct and correct the 3 types of racing turns. Coaches will employ drills and the use of video recording to help the swimmer achieve better, legal starts and turns.

Private coaching for YMCA Member - $140
Semi-private coaching with 2 YMCA Members - $230
Private coaching for Community Participant - $160
Semi-private coaching with 2 community participants - $320

Stroke Technique and Analysis
Coaches will focus on evaluating and correcting the technique of the swimmer through the use of video recording and drills. Swimmers can choose any or all of the strokes they would like to improve upon. Stroke bio-mechanics and proper technique to avoid injury will enhance any swimmer’s enjoyment of the sport.

Private coaching for YMCA Member - $150
Semi-private coaching with 2 YMCA Members - $260
Private coaching for Community Participant - $220
Semi-private coaching with 2 community participants - $380

Pre-requisites
Swimmers must be at least 8 years old with prior swim team or swim lesson experience at the Minnow level or above. Adults must be able to swim at least 50 yards without stopping, and should show some form of rotary breathing with a propellant kick.

* A certified ASCA coach has studied and taken an exam to qualify them as a “certified coach.” In addition, a Level One coach has a minimum of 6 months of actual coaching experience.

A certified USA Swimming coach has attained the ASCA Level One certification and has passed a background check. In addition, a USA Swimming coach has been certified in CPR, Lifeguarding, and/or Safety Training for Swim Coaches.

YMCA Aquatic programs are designed to teach personal water safety, stroke development, water sports, and games, rescue, and personal growth skills. Our program is divided by age and skill levels. Advancing to the next level is dependent on completion of required skills. Students learn at their own pace. Early registration is encouraged.

 

Parent/Child Classes
(for children 6-38 months of age.)

Parent or caregiver swims with child.

Parent/caregiver swims with child. These classes promotee water enrichment and aquatic readiness activities. All children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper and a bathing suit or plastic pants.

To receive the member rate, at least one participant must be a current member.

Shrimp/Kipper - For children 6-18 months with a parent. An introduction to water, including safe exploration. Includes songs, games, and basic water skills.

SKIP Class - For children 6-36 months with a parent. An introduction to water, including more safe exploration. Utilizes increased motor development of child to add basic water skills in a fun song and game program.

Inia/Perch - For children 18-38 months with parent. Children work with parents and the instructor as they learn to move more independently through the water.

Preschool Swim Program

Children are 3-6* years old without a parent - Maximum ratio 1:6. *Includes 6 year olds who are in Kindergarten

There are 4 levels so that a child can progress though the levels as their skills develop. The goal is for the children to learn how to swim on their front, back and side as well as learn basic water safety skills.

Pike - For children who need to adjust to the water and develop independent movement. Teaches basic stroke and kicking skills, floating, pool safety, placing faces in the water, and blowing bubbles.

Eel - For children who are comfortable in the water, put their face in the water, and use minimal flotation. Children are taught to float, and swim on their front, back, and side.

Ray - For children who can swim width of pool with faces in the water and use no flotation device. Reviews and improves stroke skills on front, back, and side, builds endurance, teaches treading water, progressive diving skills, and elementary backstroke.

Starfish - This advanced level refines crawl, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and introduces breaststroke.

Youth Swim Program

For children in grades 1 and up. Max ratio 1:8. Classes are 45 minutes long

Polliwog - For beginning swimmers. May wear bubbles. Class works on basic skills such as kicking, arm strokes, putting face in the water, and floats. Water safety included.

Guppy - Advanced begin- ners. Children are able to swim the width of the pool without a floatation device. Are able to put face in water while swimming. Introduces rhythmic breathing, safety skills, elementary backstroke and kneeling dive.

Minnow - Intermediate – works on improving rotary breathing, introduces scissors kick for sidestroke, and breast- stroke,

Fish - Advanced interme- diate- teaches open turns and begins butterfly. Builds endurance. Must be able to swim 50 yards of each stroke except butterfly to advance.

Flying Fish / Shark - Advanced. These 2 levels work or refining strokes, works on the 100 and 200 yd IM, competitive stats and turns and more sophisticated rescue skills.

Swim Lesson Guidelines:

  • To insure the safety of participants there are no makeup’s for missed classes.
  • If you have specific questions regarding your child’s progress, please consult your child’s swim instructor
  • We ask that parents observe lap pool lessons from the observation deck after the first class. Parents observing in the therapy pool are asked to remain on the bleachers.
  • Arrive 5 minutes before class begins
  • Please have your child use the bathroom prior to class
  • Children with long hair must have it tied up or wear a cap
  • If class is cancelled due to a storm or facility problem, the Y will either hold a make up class or will issue a credit.
  • Credits will only be issued if a child’s absence is due to medical reasons and documentation is provided.

Open/Family Swim Guidelines

  • Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult in the water during Open and or Family Swims.
  • Children between 8-11 must have an adult in the YMCA.
  • Children 12 and older may use the pools without a parent being at the Y.
  • All children may be asked to demonstrate their swimming skills by taking a swim test (1 length of the lap pool).
  • Please review and follow all pool rules as posted in the pool areas.
  • No “swimmies” or arm bands are allowed- only PFD’s (lifejackets)

 

Private and semi-private swim lessons for YMCA members may be arranged.
Lesson arrangements depend on instructor availability.

TEEN & ADULT SWIM PROGRAM

Learn to swim- at any age. Progress at your own pace. Individualized instruction. A level for everyone:- “fraidy cats” , “timid cats” who want to learn new strokes or “ wild cats” who want to improve their swimming.
